about

JIM WYLDE comes in from the cold after exploring the frozen landscape of the soul during the long, cold Québec winter of 2015–2016. Utilising improvisational techniques of automatic (de)composition, Wylde likens his techniques to Surrealist automatic writing, in which all that is emptied in the moment finds its place in the aether.

“Songs is a work about being in the moment even if that moment is one of grief, loss or pain. All works were created in the same style as automatic writing. I set my equipment in a different configuration each time and let the music come. Sometimes the session did not produce anything useful and those works were dumped back into the aether.” —JW

Jim Wylde has been making music since 2011, starting with the collaborative project Mithræum. In 2012 Jim launched his solo project sp3ct3rs, seeking more hands-on creative control. His first release destroyed by stars was created in FL10 with sounds found in free repositories online. In 2014 Jim started working with recorded samples, and spent the year working on legion which was solely created with iPhone captured samples and a Korg Nanopad. At this time he also started another side project Soft Altars, and released the In Radiant Darkness EP. These two shifts pushed Jim out of the laptop environment and gave him the desire for a more physical, in the moment method of creation. He has since released on Petroglyph Music, Digital Dizzy, Etched Traumas, Sombre Soniks, and now IO SOUND.
